The Teacher’s Guide provides teachers with guidelines for preparing a stimulating and inspiring lesson. Every chapter in Witness to History has an accompanying lesson plan that includes the following items:
- Purpose/Motivation: Enables students to understand why the topic is important and why it was chosen.
- Understanding and Critical Thinking: The research that is used for the lesson motivates students to engage in the process of critical thinking.
- Key Points: The teacher will be in possession of enough researched material on the topic of the chapter to be able to present the key points of the lesson.
- Identifying Key Terms and Supplemental Definitions: The teacher will have material on hand to teach key terms and supplemental definitions, when needed.
- Thinking and Discussing: The researched material will stimulate discussion. Suggested topics are provided.
- Moral Implications and conclusions: The researched material lends itself to the discussion of moral issues and how they were handled by those facing unexpected challenges.
- Follow-up activities: Ideally, the material presented in the lesson should be so challenging that students will be interested in following up the lesson and finding out more about the topic.
